Glass blowers use jacks to loosen the glass and to form sidewalls. Also at the burner, jacks are a useful tool for forming (larger) pieces. Use jacks with your palm open with your fingers around one handle and your thumb on the other handle and squeeze very gently while turning the glass. The back of the jack is flat metal, so you can use that to shape. Remember that the metal makes the glass cool very quickly.
